How to know if someone took a screenshot on Whatsapp status?

There is no built-in way to get notified if someone takes a screenshot of your WhatsApp status.

WhatsApp does not have any feature that informs a user when their status is screenshotted by someone.

However, there are some third-party apps and workarounds that can help you detect if someone has taken a screenshot of your status.

Use a Third Party App

One of the easiest options is to use a third-party app that is designed specifically to notify you of WhatsApp status screenshots.

Here are some popular apps you can try:

Status Saver & Screenshot Alert

This app is available for both Android and iOS. Once installed, it runs in the background and monitors your WhatsApp status views.

Whenever someone takes a screenshot of your status, the app sends you a notification with details of who took it and when.

The app also shows you data on how many people viewed your status and how many times it was viewed.

A limitation is that it only works with your phone’s contacts, not for unknown viewers.

Who Viewed My Status

This app is currently only available for Android.

It has the capability to notify you when someone takes a screenshot of your WhatsApp status. In addition, it tracks information like total status views, names of viewers, and how many times each person viewed your status.

A useful feature of this app is you can even view the profile pictures of people who have seen your status if they are not in your contacts. The app is free but also has a paid Premium version with more features.

Status Saver and Alert

Available for Android phones, this app alerts you instantly when someone captures your WhatsApp status.

It also closely monitors your status and gives insights into how many people saw it, at what time, and how many times it was viewed.

The app lets you save your own statuses, as well as download statuses posted by your contacts. There is a free version with ads, and a paid version with additional capabilities.

Use WhatsApp Mods

WhatsApp mods are modified unofficial versions of WhatsApp that have extra features not available on the original app.

Some WhatsApp mods like GB WhatsApp and FM WhatsApp have inbuilt capabilities that can notify you of status screenshots.

However, WhatsApp mods are not officially endorsed by WhatsApp and violate their terms of service. Using them can lead to your account being banned. So use mods at your own risk only.

Enable Read Receipts

WhatsApp’s read receipts feature can indirectly indicate if someone has screenshotted your status.

When enabled, read receipts send notifications when your messages have been read.

So if you see a read receipt from a contact immediately after posting a status, chances are they opened your status and took a screenshot. This method does not give guaranteed alerts, but can act as a signal in many cases.

Use File Explorer Apps

On Android phones, you can use file explorer apps like File Manager, ES File Explorer, etc. These apps give access to system directories where screenshots are usually saved.

You will need to manually check these folders periodically to see if any new screenshots have been added. Match the screenshot filenames with your status timings to deduce if your status was captured.

This technique takes effort and is not foolproof. But it can help determine if someone is taking screenshots of your WhatsApp status.

Post Bait Content

One sneaky trick is to post a status update with bait content – something too funny, controversial or tempting for someone not to screenshot. You can then directly ask the people you suspect of taking screenshots if they did.

This tactic works best if you suspect just one or two particular contacts. But it involves posting content you wouldn’t normally share and is not guaranteed.

Use WhatsApp Web

When you open WhatsApp Web scanned with your phone’s QR code, you can see live status updates of all your contacts.

This is because the web version pulls the lateststatuses in real-time.

So if you have WhatsApp open on your computer, look for the status updates of the person you suspect is taking screenshots.

If their status keeps updating, it means they are likely screenshotting your status from their phone.

Check Their Media Usage

On WhatsApp Web/Desktop, you can check how much media storage a contact has used. Go to the chat window of the person you suspect of taking screenshots and click on their name.

This will show you how much media they have exchanged on WhatsApp. If you notice a spike after posting a status, it indicates they may have taken screenshots and used up storage.

However, this is not fully reliable as media usage can increase due to other photos or videos.

Use Hidden Notification Apps

There are some Android apps like Notification History and Notification Saver that record notifications from other apps. You can enable them to secretly run in the background.

When someone takes a screenshot on their phone, it triggers a screenshot notification. If you have enabled a notification history app, it will log that notification.

You can then periodically check the notification logs and match the screenshot notification timestamps with your status times to identify if your status was screenshotted.

Set View Once Status

WhatsApp now allows posting view once statuses that disappear after being viewed a single time. Since these statuses can’t be seen more than once, they can’t be screenshotted either.

If you set your status to view once, and a contact still immediately responds related to that status, it means they likely took a screenshot to see it again.

This approach can help narrow down potential contacts who could have screenshotted your regular non-view once status posts.

Look for App Icons

When someone takes a screenshot on an iPhone, the screenshot thumbnail briefly appears at bottom left.

Keenly observe the status views of your iPhone contacts to see if this thumbnail pops up.

On Android, screenshot notifications create a background app icon in the status bar. Again, watch carefully if any app icon appears when someone is viewing your status.

Some screenshot apps do not display any indicator, so this technique is not guaranteed. But it can catch some amateur screenshotters.

Use Picture-in-Picture Mode

On iPhone, enable Picture-in-Picture mode from control center before posting a status. This will overlay your status on top of other apps.

Now use your phone normally and keep an eye on the PiP status box. If someone screenshots, their phone’s screen will flash briefly in the PiP which you can notice.

Of course, this only works if you are monitoring your phone screen continuously as your status is live.

See If They React

Sometimes human behavior can give clues if someone has screenshotted your status. Pay attention if any of your contacts immediately react upon seeing your new status.

If they comment on something very specific from your status, or their response indicates they examined it carefully, it suggests they may have taken a screenshot to view it again.

Observing reactions can’t tell you definitively. But it can give hints on who could have potentially screenshotted your status update.

Third Party Screen Recording Apps

Some crafty people can use third party screen recording apps to capture your WhatsApp status. These apps can record the phone screen secretly in the background.

So even if someone is not directly taking a screenshot, they could be screen recording your status. Unfortunately there is no way to detect if someone is recording your status via such apps.

Bait with False Information

This tactic involves posting false information in your status that is likely to spread. For example, a fake news headline, or claiming you won the lottery.

After sometime, check if the fake news has circulated or people congratulate you on your win. If yes, it indicates someone likely screenshotted your status and spread it further without verifying.

This technique can ruin relationships or reputation if the fake news gets spread widely by multiple people. So use this strategy carefully.

WhatsApp currently does not have any built-in feature to get notified when someone screenshots your status.

However, third party apps provide capabilities to detect status screenshots.

Other workarounds involve monitoring notifications, file directories, reactions, media usage, etc. to indirectly deduce if and when someone has screenshotted your status update.

Each method has its limitations but using a combination can help identify potential status screenshotters.
