Whatsapp status at bottom of screen?

The WhatsApp status feature allows users to share text, photos, videos and GIFs that disappear after 24 hours. By default, the status updates from your contacts appear at the top of the chats list in WhatsApp. However, some users have reported seeing status updates appear at the bottom instead. There are a few reasons why this can happen.

Accidental Setting Change

One of the most common reasons for WhatsApp status showing up at the bottom is an accidental change in settings. In WhatsApp, you can customize where your contacts’ status updates appear in the chats list. The default setting is at the top, but this can be changed to the bottom in the app settings.

To check your status position setting in WhatsApp:

  1. Open WhatsApp and tap on the three dot menu icon in the top right.
  2. Go to Settings > Chats.
  3. Under ‘Display’, you’ll see options for ‘Keep chats on top’ and ‘Keep status on top’. Make sure both options are enabled.

If ‘Keep status on top’ is disabled, it means status updates will appear at the bottom instead of the top. Simply toggle it on to move status back up top where it normally appears.

WhatsApp Beta Versions

Another potential reason is if you’re using a WhatsApp beta version. WhatsApp frequently tests new features and changes in beta before rolling them out to the public. Moving status position is something they have tested in beta.

So if you are enrolled in the WhatsApp beta program on Android or iOS, an update may have enabled the bottom status position. Usually beta changes are temporary tests rather than permanent changes. When providing feedback to WhatsApp, you can let them know if you prefer status at the top or bottom.

Third-Party WhatsApp Mods

Using an unofficial third-party modded version of WhatsApp could also result in interface changes like status position. These mods are not officially supported by WhatsApp and often have experimental tweaks enabled, such as moving status to the bottom.

If you are using a third-party WhatsApp mod, status at the bottom is likely an intentional interface modification by the mod developer. You can switch back to the official WhatsApp app from the Google Play Store or App Store to restore the default status position.

How to Move WhatsApp Status Back to Top

If your WhatsApp status updates are appearing at the bottom and you want them back at the top, here are some troubleshooting steps:

  1. First, check your status position setting in WhatsApp Settings > Chats and make sure ‘Keep status on top’ is enabled.
  2. If that doesn’t work, try force closing and reopening WhatsApp to refresh the app.
  3. Update to the latest version of WhatsApp in case a bug was causing the issue.
  4. If you’re on a beta version, downgrade back to the standard version of WhatsApp.
  5. For mod users, uninstall the third-party mod and install the official WhatsApp app.
  6. On Android, clear WhatsApp’s cache and data from the Apps settings page.
  7. On iPhone, reset WhatsApp network settings under Settings > WhatsApp.
  8. As a last resort, uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp to fully reset the app.

Following these troubleshooting steps should move your status updates back to the top of the chats list where they normally appear. If the issue persists, get in touch with WhatsApp support for further help.

Customizing WhatsApp Status Position

While having status at the bottom may seem unusual if you’re used to it being at the top, it is possible to intentionally customize the status position in WhatsApp.

Here’s how to move your status to the bottom of the chats list if you prefer it there:

  1. Open WhatsApp Settings > Chats.
  2. Disable the ‘Keep status on top’ option.
  3. Close and reopen WhatsApp for the change to take effect.

This will immediately move all your contacts’ status updates to the bottom of the chats list in WhatsApp. You can always toggle it back on whenever you want to return status to the top.

Benefits of Bottom Status

For some users, having status at the bottom has advantages:

  • Keeps the chats list focused on conversations at the top.
  • Prevents distraction from constant status updates.
  • Suits users who rarely update their own status.
  • Follows the chronological order of older to newer chats.

Ultimately it comes down to personal preference for your WhatsApp layout. Change the status position to see if you like it more at the top or bottom of your chats list.

Troubleshooting WhatsApp Status Not Showing

In some cases, status may not be showing up at all in your WhatsApp chats list. Here are some things to check if you don’t see any status updates:

  • Open WhatsApp Settings > Data usage and make sure you have media auto-download enabled over Wi-Fi and cellular data.
  • Verify that your date/time settings on your phone are set correctly and automatically updating.
  • Check your internet connection and confirm WhatsApp is able to connect to the internet.
  • Force close and reopen WhatsApp in case of a glitch.
  • Update to the latest version of WhatsApp if available.
  • On Android, clear WhatsApp’s cache and data from your device settings.
  • On iPhone, reset WhatsApp’s network settings under WhatsApp Settings.
  • Try uninstalling and reinstalling WhatsApp as a last resort.

If you’ve confirmed status is enabled in Settings but still not showing, contact WhatsApp support for help troubleshooting further.

How to Use WhatsApp Status

If you’re new to WhatsApp, here is a quick overview of how to use status in the app:

  1. Create status updates – Open the WhatsApp camera and swipe to the Status tab. Capture or upload photos/videos. Add text, emojis, drawings, and more.
  2. View your contacts’ status – Open WhatsApp and look for their profile photo rings at the top of chats. Tap these to view statuses.
  3. Reply to status – Swipe up on a status and tap the reply icon. Your response will be sent as a private message.
  4. Share status – Forward a status by tapping the forward arrow icon. Choose contacts to share the status with.
  5. Mute status – Press and hold on a status profile ring, then tap Mute to hide their future status updates.

The WhatsApp status feature helps you share ephemeral photo, video, text and GIF updates with your contacts. Make sure your status updates are visible by having them positioned at the top or bottom of your chats list as per your preference.
