Whatsapp status reply not working?

If you are unable to reply to WhatsApp statuses, there could be a few possible reasons for this. The most common causes are outdated app version, connectivity issues, account restrictions, and bugs. Updating the app, checking internet connection, verifying account status, and troubleshooting can typically resolve the problem.

Outdated WhatsApp Version

One of the most common reasons why status replies may not be working is because your WhatsApp is not updated to the latest version. WhatsApp regularly releases new updates with bug fixes and feature additions. The status reply feature was introduced in a recent update. If your app has not been updated to this version, you will not see the reply button on statuses.

To fix this, go to your phone’s app store, search for WhatsApp, and check if any updates are available. Install the latest version and the status reply option should start working. Do note that you will need to be on at least WhatsApp version 2.22.9.77 for iOS and 2.22.9.74 for Android to use status replies. So update to the newest version for your device.

Connectivity Issues

Network connectivity issues can also sometimes lead to problems with replying to WhatsApp statuses. If you are facing weak internet connectivity or using mobile data with poor signals, responses may fail to go through.

Try moving to an area with better connectivity like WiFi or strong mobile data signals. Disable data saver options if enabled. Or try toggling airplane mode on and off to reset connections. If the network conditions improve, you should be able to respond without issues.

Account Restrictions

In some cases, there may be restrictions applied to your WhatsApp account that prevent certain features from working. For instance, if your account was banned for violating terms of service, WhatsApp may have disabled some messaging capabilities including status interactions.

To check for such restrictions, try updating your privacy and security settings on WhatsApp. Go to account settings, tap on privacy and disable any limitations that may have been enabled. If your account was banned before, you can appeal to WhatsApp support to remove the restrictions after reviewing the violations.

Bugs and Glitches

Despite regular updates and fixes, WhatsApp can still sometimes have intermittent bugs that affect specific features. Status replies not working, even when all other troubleshooting steps are tried, could indicate a minor glitch or bug.

Try force closing and reopening the WhatsApp app to clear any memory issues. Also restart your phone completely. This will refresh the app and operating system, clearing out bugs. Check if status replies start working normally again. If not, report the issue to WhatsApp by going into app settings > help > contact us. The developers will investigate and fix such bugs in upcoming updates.

Enable Status Reply

On some devices, the status reply option may be disabled by default within WhatsApp, even if you have the updated version. So you need to manually enable it to start using responses.

Go to WhatsApp settings > account > privacy > status > toggle on “allow status replies” and save changes. This will activate the status reply button. Now you should be able to view and respond to statuses from your contacts.

Update Your Phone Software

Apart from the WhatsApp app, your overall phone software also needs to be up to date. Older OS versions may not fully support newer WhatsApp features like status replies.

Check your phone settings for any pending system updates and install them. Restart your device after the update completes. This will upgrade the OS and other apps to their latest versions, which should fix compatibility issues if any.

Clear Chat History

Sometimes conversations with large histories can cause WhatsApp performance problems. This may prevent certain features like status replies from functioning smoothly.

Try clearing chat history for all your WhatsApp contacts. This will delete old messages and free up app storage space. With reduced chat data, WhatsApp will run lighter and status interactions can work properly.

Reset Network Settings

Resetting network settings can help fix connectivity problems that may be stopping WhatsApp status responses from going through.

On Android, go to settings > system > reset options > reset wifi, mobile data and Bluetooth. On iOS, go to settings > general > reset > reset network settings. This will clear out and refresh all network connections including WhatsApp.

Update Your Contacts

Having outdated or missing contacts on your phone can create issues with WhatsApp features. So ensure your contacts are updated with the correct WhatsApp numbers linked.

Sync your contacts with your phonebook, social media accounts, etc to get the latest details. Add missing contacts and correct any wrong numbers listed. This will ensure WhatsApp can properly connect you to each contact for status interactions.

Disable Battery Saver Modes

Battery saver and power optimization features may restrict WhatsApp from running fully in the background. This can prevent status replies from being delivered.

Disable any battery saver or data saver options on your device. Also whitelist WhatsApp in power management settings to allow it to run unrestricted. With reduced battery limitations, all WhatsApp notifications and responses will work smoothly.

Update WhatsApp Business

If you are using WhatsApp Business, make sure it is also updated to the latest version. The separate business app needs its own updates to enable status responses.

Go to the app store and check for WhatsApp Business updates. Install any pending updates to get the newest features and fixes. This will bring it at par with the standard WhatsApp version and enable status replies.

Turn Off Do Not Disturb Mode

If do not disturb mode is enabled on your phone, you may miss seeing WhatsApp status notifications and interactions.

Disable do not disturb in quick settings or phone sound profile. Also check WhatsApp notification settings and make sure they are enabled under do not disturb permissions. This will allow status pings and replies to come through uninterrupted.

Free Up Storage Space

Low storage space on your phone can cause performance lags and freezes in WhatsApp that affects status replies.

Clear cache and unused files in device storage to free up space. Uninstall unused apps, delete large files, backup photos/videos, and manage downloads to increase available storage. With ample free space, WhatsApp will function without slowdowns or crashes.

Disable Read Receipts

Having read receipts enabled can sometimes interfere with status response notifications. Try turning them off.

Go to WhatsApp settings > account > privacy > read receipts and disable them. This prevents read notifications from queuing up and potentially blocking new status replies. Without read receipts, responses should come through.

Update Your Phone

If your phone model is very outdated, it may not fully support the latest WhatsApp features and protocols properly. This can cause status response issues.

Consider upgrading your phone to a newer model for better compatibility. Newer phones have improved hardware and software that works well with the most recent app versions. This will enable all WhatsApp messaging capabilities without problems.

Factory Reset WhatsApp

If all else fails, you can try factory resetting WhatsApp to defaults which will clear out bugs or bad configurations.

On Android go to settings > apps > WhatsApp > storage > clear data. On iOS go to settings > general > transfer app > reset. This will erase all WhatsApp data and restore factory settings. Set up WhatsApp again and check if status replies now work fine.

By following the various troubleshooting tips above, you should be able to identify what is preventing status responses from working and resolve the problem. Regular app updates, stable connectivity, proper account settings, and device maintenance will ensure you never face issues with replying to WhatsApp statuses.
